Putin is no match for the defiant joy of Ukrainians.

While the need to heal is universal, the rituals to do so vary significantly by society. Some heal through storytelling or acts of sacrifice. Others through religious events or community celebrations. While there is no right or wrong way to mourn, the way groups of people collectively heal offers a beautiful window into a society's soul.

We are witnessing one such example in Ukraine today.

Defiant joy in Ukraine

Average Ukrainians were compelled into brave action when Putin's troops crossed the line of departure. Most heroically, though, is the way average Ukrananians have responded to Russia's campaign of total war. Facing a relentless stream of Russian missiles, rapes, and war crimes, the animating spirit of the Ukrainian struggle is defiant joy.
